To support a clear and consistent understanding, this terminology list provides definitions for terms used in the context of Product Explorer.

Batch |
Group of processed parts or product instances manufactured together under the same conditions, with a unique batch number (ID), any produced part can belong to a batch. |
BOM |
The Product Explorer application allows the display of a Bill of Materials (BOM) in a tree structure. |
ECR |

Equipment |
Plants, work centers, work units, and work cells are grouped as equipment. |
Material |
A model that defines the design, features, and technology of a material, serving as the blueprint for its individual processed parts. |
Plant |
A location where processed parts and product instances get manufactured. |
Process parameter |
Processes are production steps that take place during the production of a product type and each of these steps produces a set of process parameters. |
Processed part |
Physical single component that has undergone specific processing or manufacturing steps to be used in a particular product instance. Can be manufactured by multiple processed parts. |
Product |
The Product contains all the information with a focus on the product view and provides the needed information for engineers or quality managers. |
Product family |
A product family is a group of related products. These products typically share common features, technology and are targeted at a similar customer base. |
Product instance |
A physically manufactured instance of a product type, typically identified by a serial number. Is manufactured by multiple processed parts. |
Product type |
A model that defines the design, features, and technology of a product, serving as the blueprint for its individual instances and is manufactured by multiple materials or products. |
Production quantity (Production Qty) |
The quantity of instances of one product produced monthly in a certain plant. |
Sales quantity (Sales Qty) |
The quantity of monthly sales made for certain products in a certain country. |
Work Center |
A location in a plant where multiple materials get manufactured, which consists of many work units,e.g., a Line. |
Work Cell |
A work cell is a part of a work unit which only does a single manufacturing step. |
Work Unit |
A part of a work center where multiple materials get manufactured, e.g., a Station. One work unit consists of many work cells. |
